We should say from the start, this is not passing judgment in any way on the books behind these truly awful covers captured for (digital) posterity at the Lousy Book Covers tumblr.
For those with strong dispositions the site offers a seemingly endless array of book titles aimed at a frankly worrying variety of topics and age ranges, all with eye-watering covers. As this site so properly warns: “Just because you CAN design your own book cover doesn’t mean you SHOULD.”
Of course, there is the obvious cheesy poses for dramatic, romantic effect. But there are also the truly bizarre combinations of colours, clip art and illustrations so hideous they can only be assumed to be ripped directly from fridges the world over.
Behold the horror, and tear your eyes away if you can: truly, lousy book covers.
